Boat Trips Along the Tagus

Birds & Nature organizes, in partnership with the company Rio-a-Dentro, birdwatching and bird photography tours by boat, along the river Tagus.

These boat trips are arranged for specific dates (see below), but can also be organized for group bookings at other times (minimum of 6 participants).

The trips on the river Tagus start at Escaroupim dock (Council of Salvaterra de Magos) and take place in the spring and the beginning of summer. The main objective of these trips is to observe the great beauty of the river and the colonies of birds, such as Bee-eaters, Sand Martins and Egrets. The Escaroupim area is of enormous importance particularly for the colony of Egrets, not only because of the number of pairs involved, but also the diversity of other breeding species, which include Squacco Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, Grey Heron and Spoonbill (Glossy Ibis bread in this colony in 2005 and 2012); great care is taken not to disturb the birds.
