Birdwatching Day Tours Overview

❮ Back

Our day tours are tailor-made specifically to meet your personal requirements and are totally private, comprising just you and your party. Full day tours are approximately 9 hours in length while half day tours last about 4h30m. Tours normally start between 07h00 and 08h30 (the exact timing can be adjusted more or less to suit the convenience of participants). For the Alentejo tour or other more distant destinations an early start and late finish are desirable so that as much time as possible can be spent birding at the site or sites.

For tours commencing in Lisbon, pick up and drop off in the city at your hotel or other accommodation are included in our service. For tours commencing in the Algarve, pick up and drop off in Faro, or east of Faro, are included as part of the itinerary. If you are staying to the west of Faro and require pick up and drop off there, an additional fee may be payable; please contact us for additional information in this regard.

Relevant field guides for participants’ reference are carried on all tours, our guides are always equipped with a good quality telescope and binoculars can be made available without charge, if requested prior to the tour date.

Each tour is carefully planned to optimise your experience of birds in their natural habitat and we endeavour to ensure that you obtain memorable views of some of the most elusive species in Europe. Our itineraries are planned to take account of tide times and weather conditions as well as any target species you are especially keen to see. Recent reports of interesting species are checked to optimize sightings on every trip. As access to many sites is restricted to the public, Birds & Nature has developed relationships with many of the appropriate authorities and landowners to enable us to visit the best sites for the bird species you most want to see.

With our tours directed at specific locations readily accessed by car, the amount of walking is normally limited to relatively short distances, requiring no special level of physical fitness.

We recommend that participants wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking in the countryside, bearing in mind that summers can be hot and winters can be cool with occasional rain. It is also sensible to bring drinking water and sun block, especially during the warmer months.

Prices quoted for day tours include an experienced and knowledgeable bird guide, transport (including fuel, tolls and hotel pick up and drop off – but please see above), free use of optical equipment (quality binoculars and telescopes) and field guides, bird list, any entrance fees to private or protected areas, participants’ accident insurance and VAT. On full day tours lunch is not included, but we are happy to arrange a restaurant lunch on request.
